RECREATION
SOCCER - FALL REGISTRATION |
Registration
sessions for the 2008/09 recreation season are scheduled for
August 9, 16 and 23. All sessions will be held at the
Walter Fuller Recreation Center, 7891 26th Ave N, St.
Petersburg from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Recreational soccer
is for boys and girls ages 4 to 18 of all skill levels.
Registering players must be at least 4 and no older than 18
as of August 1 of this year. Check the
Recreation Program page for
all the details on what you'll need to bring to registration
as well as what you need to know about recreation soccer at
AYSL. |

FULL
REFUND OFFERED FOR KEY VOLUNTEER POSITIONS |
Included
in the registration fee for recreation soccer again this
year is a $40 volunteer deposit required of each family with
the exception of returning head coaches, board members and
sponsors. The deposit is returned to those parents who
provide three or more hours of volunteer service within any
of the activities identified in AYSL’s
Volunteer Deposit publication provided at registration.
Volunteers who offer to fill the Bookkeeper or Field Crew
positions listed below would be eligible to have their $125
registration fee returned in addition to their volunteer
deposit. To volunteer for these or other positions at
AYSL or for more information contact the
league administrator.
Bookkeeper - Work with Treasurer
to maintain and monitor acco unt
payables and receivables. Requires some experience
with Quickbooks or similar program.
Field Crew - Maintain fields
during the season, including marking and striping,
occasional repair of playing field areas, maintain goals and
nets and ensure goals are anchored on game days. Five
to seven volunteers needed to work with Field Maintenance
coordinators.
AYSL is also seeking a Concession
Manager. This position involves managing
the concession stand operations on practice nights and
during games on weekends from October 24 to February 8.
Some management experience desired. This is a paid
position with compensation based on days/hours available.

DAN PRICE
- VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR |
AYSL presented its inaugural John Buehler
Volunteer of the Year Award to Dan Price recently for his
selfless efforts to serve the league's players and families.
In addition to coaching his son's U13 club team, Dan was the
league's GYSA Commissioner and Uniform Coordinator. He
also took care of field maintenance and handled the ordering
and assembly of several new goals that were brought to the
fields this year. The Volunteer of the Year Award
honors the memory of John Buehler, a former AYSL volunteer
who passed away in 2007. Congratulations Dan! |

THE YEAR AWARDS

AYSL's Coach of the Year Awards recognize
some of the best of the league's recreation league coaches
for their exemplary efforts in
teaching the game of soccer to players of all skill levels
while developing a
sense of sportsmanship and teamwork among their players and
advancing the sport of soccer in the community.
The 2008 Coach of the Year Award winners include Phillip
Teasdale (U6), Deborah Nyhart and Don Standifer (U8), Ed
Hiznay (U10) and Lea Doyle (U12-16). Congratulations
